TEDx Women Talk

This October I had the great pleasure of speaking at TEDx Women in Culver City, CA. My talk, Harnessing the Power of the Unknown was about my own personal experiences with writing a book, failure, and being a woman. At the time I gave the talk, we still had two weeks to go before the election. The room was buzzing with excitement for a new future, a new cultural shift: the first female president. As I spoke I could feel the love and excitement of the crowd and it carried me through the talk. Two weeks later, the unimaginable happened and all I could think about after the election was all that hope-so much of it, all that enthusiasm totally quelled by the idea of this ludicrous joke of a human being taking office. The TEDx Women talks we gave that amazing day in late October recently went up and I believe that now, more than ever, we need to harness the power of the Unknown and use it to create the kind of world we want. I see so many of you doing just that. Acknowledging your fear and your heartbreak and your rage, but still going, still creating anew, still giving the best of yourselves despite all odds. The next few months and years might feel like an abyss of darkness, one of the greatest Unknowns we've ever collectively experienced. All I can say is that I'm grateful to be surrounded by friends and family who are willing to delve into this Unknown, bringing with them the best parts of themselves, and to provide light for others. And also grateful to know that this is a movement, millions-strong. Let's guide each other through this Unknown with love and hope and action and art and will and stories and all the good stuff we can bring. And thanks to all the incredible women I met through this event and for the amazing ideas they all shared. Go check out their talks through the TEDx channel on youtube. And yes, I still believe the future is female.
